Golf tourney raises funds for medical center foundation, Bell Tower Festival

Golfers gathered at the Jefferson Community Golf Course during the Bell Tower Festival for the annual Greene County Medical Center Foundation Golf Tournament Friday, June 7. It was the third consecutive year the tournament has been part of the festival.

“What a fun way for our players to immerse themselves in the wide variety of activities that take place over the three days of the Bell Tower Festival,” said foundation director Nancy Houska. “We are grateful to all those whose support makes this a fun and successful way to help Greene County Medical Center further our mission and vision of serving our communities and being Always Here, Always Caring. Thanks to their generosity, we have been able to raise nearly $18,000 in support of the services, programs and equipment needs at Greene County Medical Center while also paying it forward with a donation to the Bell Tower Festival.”

At registration, golfers were treated to donuts donated by the Greene County Medical Center auxiliary. A pork loin lunch was provided by the Jefferson Hy-Vee and afternoon snacks were sponsored by Greene County Medical Center’s nutrition department.

The day concluded with the announcement of winners. Taking home the Championship Flight with a score of 58 was the combined team of Jefferson Family Dentistry, Fortress Insurance and Hupp Home Services. Iowa Central Community College won the First Flight prize with a 68. Home State Bank sponsored the prizes, with numerous other teams and individuals winning for longest drive, longest putt, trivia, poker and putting competitions. Prizes included a new Titleist golf bag, stainless steel fire pit, Murphy Farm Meats snacks, golf accessories and more.

The tournament’s success was made possible thanks to the many players and sponsors, including hole-in-one sponsors; Assured Partners; Iowa Hospital Association; ServiShare; Drees Company; Heartland Bank; Home State Bank; Hy-Vee; SCP Health; UnityPoint Des Moines; Wild Rose Casino and 21st Century Rehab.

Over the course of the past year, funds raised by the Greene County Medical Center Foundation have supported scholarships, the purchase of an automated external defibrillator (AED) for the medical center cafeteria and nursing re-certifications. Foundation dollars have been pooled with grant funding from Grow Greene County to assist with the purchase of radiofrequency ablation (RFA) equipment for the Pain Clinic and another grant from the Greene County Community Foundation for handicap accessible doors at senior independent living facility, Ever Greene Ridge.

Prior to the tournament, the Foundation also presented a sponsorship check to the Bell Tower Festival.
